You mentioned Buckskin Bill - the other local kid show host (and one of the longest-lasting of such TV personalities. He campaigned for a zoo in Baton Rouge by closing each show with the phrase "Baton Rouge needs a zoo." Count Macabre, in his own little twisted way, reworked that - closing his shows with "Baton Rouge IS a zoo!" Ya' gotta' love someone who would do that! Skip

I always remember, the Count, saying: "Roll'em, Cotrinka(maybe missed spelled) when it was time to start the film. To this day I tell anyone who listens to me, 'Roll'em Cotrinka', when it it time to go so where. Almost 50 David Dunnehoo dunnehoo@writeme.com

What a wonderful look into the past of BR television. One thing that I can remember is that Erik, his sidekick had a favorite song which was none other than "I aint got nobody."

He would often say "If you don't like what I am doing call the station" then "Stay away from that phone"

Hi I'm Daryl, I was born in 1960, New Roads Louisiana. I can remember as a child I couldn't wait for Count Macabre to come on in the afternoon. The show that has stuck in my mind that played on Count Macabres' was an Outer Limits program. This show has a man that was mutated and his eyes were big as a couple of fried eggs. I remember it because I was the only one in the house at the time it was playing. My parents were outside busy in the yard. I was so frightened by the man with the big eyes, that I ran outside when he took his goggles off. Those are fond memories. I have done a lot of searching for Count Maccabre, and finally found it here. Thanks for the photos.... Also, as a child growing up in New Roads, I looked forward to Mardi Gras, when Buckskin Bill would ride the Holsum Bakery truck and through small Holsum Bakery breads to the crowd. Thanks again..

Thank You!I was just relating my memories of the Count at the "Monster Club" site! And now I find you have this incredibly cool site!I was pretty young (born 1960) when the Count was on WBRZ but I definately remember him. Watching all those cool films he showed is stuff I cannot forget. I remember his opening his show with him firing a gun into the woods at something behind him, I will never forget him snarling "Shut up" at some kid on his show!Ifirst saw mexican horror films courtesy of the Count, films like "Braniac" and "Samson (Santos) VS The Vampire Women". I love that you have all these cool photos of him as well, my memories had gotten a bit dim as to what exactly he looked like! Thanks Again! Phillip

I heard from George at http://myweb.wvnet.edu/e-gor/tvhorrorhosts/ that Jay's widow lives in Pheonix, AZ, where he died aorund five years ago. Check out George's site - he's keeping our childhood memories alive! - Clay
