Artist’s Statement
I am fascinated by the edge of things; the edge of a
riverbank, the rough edges of trees silhouetted against the sky;
and the end of the day or the beginning. The edge is a place of
transition, a space that reveals my eternal nature as I evolve.
Using transparent and opaque gestural brush strokes and
vibrant colors that are overlaid by each day’s work, I create a
visual diary. Every mark is infused with my relationship to joy
and tragedy, and expresses a sense of wonder – opening me to the
energies of the sky, water, earth.
I work outdoors and return each day to the same location,
setting the easel in a slightly different position, painting at
various times of the day. Each work captures my emotional
response to the light, reflections, trees, clouds, and the edge.
I paint an intuitive
shift of sight so that the painting seems
to focus on particulars instead of a continuous image. The
unpredictability of this technique produces a single canvas or
multiples of different sizes that form vertical and horizontal
compositions. |
